Development of new street lights and installing of traffic lights in the areas surrounding Sanad roundabout is being taken up at a cost of BD2.24 million, a spokesperson for the Central Municipal Council said. Abdulrahman Hassan, chairman of the  Council said the project was expected to be completed in October 2009.

Work on the project was expected to take eight months, he said. The project is expected to begin in May. Essam Al Khalaf, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Works presented the plan for the project at the site which covers areas around the AGU University.

The roundabout near the university, accoding to the chairman, has to be replaced with lights and new roads are to be constructed in this area. Earlier, Abdulrazaq Abdullah Hattab, the Member representing the area in the Council, had told Tribune that some of the areas in this place were death traps.
 
The spokesperson said the project would not be allowed to drag on and there would be constant monitoring and interaction to ensure the conclusion of the project on time. The roads connects the AGU University and the Sanad Health Centre. The project, according to the chairman, was the result of public demand and the constant pressure by Hattab, said the spokesperson.

At a recent meeting, Al Khalaf had heard the people complain about the traffic woes in this area.  People had complained about the road congestion in areas surrounding Isa Town.
