Record sales achieved in five key regional markets

Audi Middle East has reported a 53% increase in annual sales in the region with a total volume of 4616 vehicles delivered to customers last year.

With 1906 units, the UAE remains the premium manufacturer's strongest market in terms of sales, followed by Saudi Arabia with 865 units. All time sales records were achieved in five of the Middle East countries: the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Syria and Jordan.

The best selling cars in 2006 are the Audi A6 and the Q7, Audi's first foray into the SUV segment. Despite having been launched only in the second half of 2006, the Q7 overtook Audi's flagship A8 with a total sales volume of 1146 units. This reinforces indications of significant growth within the SUV category in the Middle East. Meanwhile, the Audi A6 achieved a market penetration of up to 30% in the premium segment. During the period, the S models, Audi's even sportier range, also experienced a sales surge right from market launch in late 2006.

Audi is expected to launch the Audi TT and R8 this year. Additional projects include the Audi Middle East Training Academy in Dubai, along with a new regional parts centre and showrooms.

Globally, Audi announced it has achieved new record figures for production, vehicle sales, revenue and profit before tax in the 2006 financial year.

"We are the fastest growing premium brand in the world. This puts us well on our way to becoming the most successful premium car manufacturer in the world by 2015," said Rupert Stadler, chairman, Audi speaking at the company's annual results press conference.
