RIYADH: The Saudi Research & Marketing Group (SRMG) will start printing its Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper in Qatar by the end of this month following an agreement with the Doha-based Dar Al-Sharq.
Dr. Azzam Al-Dakhil, executive president and a member of the SRMG board, signed the agreement for Saudi Research & Publishing Company with Abdullatif Al-Mahmoud, general manager of Dar Al-Sharq.
Asharq Al-Awsat, an international daily newspaper, intends to strengthen its position in Qatar to benefit from the country's rapid development in recent years. Doha will be the 16th place where the daily is printed.
At present it prints in Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Dubai, Kuwait, Casablanca, Cairo, Beirut, Baghdad, New York, Frankfurt, Marseille and Madrid in addition to its headquarters in London.
Qatar is competing with other countries to host the football World Cup. Two days ago it presented its file to play host to the World Cup in 2022.
If Qatar wins the contest it would be the first country in the Middle East to host the tournament.
Asharq Al-Awsat, which began publishing in 1978, is one of SRMG's leading publications, which include Arab News, Al-Eqtisadiah, Arriyadiyah, Urdu News and Malayalam News, and weeklies such as Sayidaty, Arrajol and Hia.
Dar Al-Sharq is one of the major media organizations and publishes Al-Sharq newspaper, The Peninsula English newspaper and Al-Ufuq economic monthly.
