Kurdistan Asayish (intelligence police) Chief Masrur Barzani condemned a recent Turkish air strike in Şırnak province which cost lives of more than 37 Kurdish civilians, saying "no excuses for attack on civilians are acceptable."
On Wednesday night Turkish army launched an air strike on a group of fuel smugglers. All the people who came under attack were civilians, many underage, from Roboski village of Şınak. Almost 15 of them are still missing.
The ruling AKP (Justice and Development Party) said that the people could have been "mistaken" for the militants of the banned Kurdistan Workers Party, which fights Turkey for nearly three decades.
Barzani who is also a leader of the major Kurdistan Democratic Party in Iraqi Kurdistan region, published his condemnation statement on his face book account.
"Unfortunately, at these last moments of the year, civil and vulnerable people of Şırnak encountered an unfair attack," Barzani wrote.
He added "we denounce and condemn this attack.... No excuses for attack on civilians are acceptable."
The Kurdish leader expressed his deep sympathy with the families of the victims while he reiterated "it is necessary to stifle guns and violence and make the cry for peace, coexistence and tolerance louder."
