ONE of the world’s leading development organisations, The Arab National and Regional Development Institutions (ANRDI), has launched a new name and logo for the body to help promote its work around the world.

The name "Arab Aid" has been selected as a powerful statement that symbolises the enormous amount of development aid that the eight organisations within ANRDI have already provided to 147 countries on every continent. Since 1975 they have provided over $70 billion in development financing, creating a brighter future for millions of disadvantaged people.

Today the Arab World is the most generous global provider of overseas development aid, at times providing nearly one quarter of the annual aid provided by countries across the world. But this fact is little known either within the Arab World or by the wider international community.

The new logo and branding for the coordination group of the eight separate funds is the first step in a programme of activity to significantly enhance international awareness of the work of the Arab Aid and to deliver a much sharper focus on the huge contribution the Arab World makes to transforming the lives of millions of people across the developing world.

As part of the programme Arab Aid will host a high profile symposium and reception for delegates attending the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund in Dubai in September.

A television commercial is also being created to showcase the work of the group and will be screened on international satellite television stations before and during the Annual Meetings that are being held in an Arab city for the first time.

ANRDI Coordination Group was created in 1975. It comprises Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, Kuwait Fund for Arab Development, The Saudi Fund for Development, The Islamic Development Bank, The Opec Fund for International Development, The Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, The Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) and the Arab Gulf Programme for United Nations Development Institutions (AGFUND).

Abu Dhabi Fund Operations Director, Mohammed Al Suwaidi, said:

"The launch of our new logo and the name Arab Aid marks a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to ensure that the world has a greater understanding of the vital role that our group of eight organisations play around the world.

"Since 1975 we have been committed to making a major contribution to giving loans and support to projects that have been making a real difference to the lives of millions of people... No less than 147 countries have benefited from our support to projects that focus on health, education, alleviating poverty, agriculture and helping to develop large scale infrastructure."

The new logo for the organisation incorporates a blue hexagonal flower that symbolises the growth that ANRDI is committed to achieving for donor countries and has eight sides to represent each of the eight organisations that make up the group.

The striking new logo will be become an integral part of the ongoing communications and marketing effort from the group.

It has been designed for the group by the regional communications agency Bates PanGulf who is working in partnership with ANRDI to deliver a full range of marketing support including the creation of a television commercial and other material.
