Dubai: The top two seeds in the boy’s category crashed out while Tessah Andrianjafitrimo looked headed towards the girls’ crown at the 12th Al Wasl Club Dubai ITF Junior Championships.
Top seed Julian Ocleppo from Italy was eliminated in three sets to fifth seed Alexey Prokopchuk, while second seed Shamael Chaudhry from Great Britain also went down in three sets to seventh seed Ghassan Alansi from Yemen in the two semi-finals of the boy’s section.
However, in the girls section top seed Andrianjafitrimo had no such issues as she blanked fifth seeded Habiba Shaker of Egypt to book her place in the final. Her opponent in the final will be fourth seed Natalya Malenko after the Ukrainian earned an easy 6-4, 6-2 win over second seed Habiba Lasheen of Egypt.
Earlier on Friday, Malenko had teamed up with fellow countrywoman Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva to defeat Andrianjafitrimo and her Indian partner Sanjana Sudhir 6-3, 7-5 and pick up the doubles crown. In the boy’s doubles final, Ocleppo had joined Chaudhry to beat Alansi and Kareem Allaf 6-3, 6-4 for the title.
