The AMU-EU Council of Energy Ministers agreed Sunday (June 20th) in Algiers to move forward with plans to integrate the electricity markets of Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and the European Union, APS reported. Signed by Algerian Energy Minister and council chair Yousef Yousfi, Tunisian Industry and Technology Minister Afif Chelbi and Moroccan Energy Minister Amina Benkhadra, the "Algiers Declaration" said that energy market integration would "contribute to the creation of a free trade space between Mediterranean countries and EU".

Speaking Sunday at the conclusion of the first-ever energy council meeting, Moroccan Energy Minister Amina Benkhadra pointed out that as part of the Euro-Med electricity partnership, the EU must make a greater effort to transfer technology and opens its markets to products from the South.
