Algiers, Oct 08th, 2007 (WAM): The Algerian Court has acquitted the directors of two TV channels and five journalists of the charge of defamation against Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him)Algeria's widely viewed TV channels,Canal Algerie and Channel A3 had telecast a defaming caricature published by a Danish periodical early in 2005.
The cartoon was telecast in reportage in January this year by Canal Algerie and later by Channel A3 in February, attracting widespread protest by the viewers following which the Director of the national TV channel fired the journalists worked behind it. The state prosecution accused them of libel and at the end of a fierce litigation, the Algerian court exonerated all the seven mediamen.Algerian Court acquits journalists of defaming Prophet Mohammed (PBUH)
