Algerian railway workers began an indefinite strike on Sunday (May 9th). According to the national rail transport company, up to 50% of scheduled trains were cancelled.

Gates at major Algiers stations El-Harrach, Hussein Dey, Agha and Martyrs' Square were closed and passengers were told, "there is no train, they are on strike," Liberte reported. Railway workers are demanding an increase in wages and benefits.
