Exchange views on notable media developments

Ahmad Abdullah Al Shaikh, Director-General of the Dubai Government Media Office (DGMO), on Wednesday met Thomas Glocer, Chief Executive Officer of Thomson Reuters, and discussed ways of further strengthening co-operation between the emirate of Dubai and Reuters.

The Director-General of the Dubai Government Media Office extended a warm welcome to Glocer and his team of executives, expressing his appreciation for the key role that the prestigious news agency plays in disseminating accurate and reliable information around the world covering a wide range of topics.

During the meeting, Al Shaikh and his guest went on to discuss the notable developments that have taken place in Dubai and the UAE's media landscape over the past few years, applying the highest professional standards to provide balanced and effective coverage of events to audiences both inside and outside the country.

On his part, Glocer praised the healthy media climate that prevails in the UAE which he attributed to the country's wise leadership and its understanding of media industry as one of the pillars of progress and development. He added that the leadership's support for the press was reflected in the positive environment for media in the country, where journalists are allowed room to express their thoughts and opinions without bias and free from distortion.

Towards the end of the meeting, Al Shaikh and Glocer spoke about how the climate of freedom of expression in Dubai and the UAE has prompted elite media institutions to establish their regional headquarters in the country. They agreed that this has encouraged press and media personnel to perform their duties with integrity and professionalism.
