JEDDAH - Jeddah Mayoralty has contracted a company to reconstruct the Al-Rawabi pedestrian bridge which was damaged by a fire in 2009, the mayoralty announced at a press conference here Tuesday.
The bridge, which is located on Al-Haramain Road east of Jeddah, links Al-Muntazahat and Al-Rawabi districts.

Jeddah Mayor Hani Abu Ras assigned the Jeddah Development and Urban Regeneration Company (JDURC) to supervise and maintain the Al-Rawabi bridge.

JDURC signed a contract with a company to reconstruct the burned section of the bridge, apply water-resistant paint and fix the lights.

Jeddah has 20 pedestrian bridges, 11 of which are being maintained by different companies at a cost of about SR1.4 million.

A committee consisting of traffic police, the mayoralty and the roads administration in the city is responsible for issuing licenses to build pedestrian bridges.
