Tunis - Secretary-General of Al-Massar Samir Taieb said his party will not enrose a specific presidential candidate, adding that the party's central council which had met on November 8-9 defined a set of criteria that this candidate should have.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday in Tunis, Taieb said that the council had convened to assess the legislative elections and determine its position about the presidential poll.

Endorsing the candidacies of Beji Caid Essebsi, Hamma Hammami, Kalthoum Kannou and Mustapha Kamel Nabli was discussed during the meeting, he pointed out, adding that the council had not decided about the candidate to endorse.

Taieb called on Tunisians to vote for the candidate who is more inclined towards achieving the Revolution objectives, meeting youths' claims for freedom, dignity and employment, and who plans to break with corruption and dictatorship while endeavouring to build a democratic and civil State based on the principle of citizenship.

He also pointed out the need for the chosen candidate to undertake to counter terrorism, fight violence, consecrate the principle of real and peaceful alternation of power and abstain from all improvisation in the country's foreign policy, invoking the spirit of responsibility among Tunisians during the upcoming poll to preserve Tunisia from the dangers threatening it.

Through the motion published, Tuesday, on the legislative and presidential elections, Al-Massar central council pointed out the need to combine the adequate conditions to finish off the electoral operation in peace, security and transparency and to take measures that will help address deficiencies recorded during the legislative elections.
