Dubai: The Al Futtaim Group-owned Cairo Festival City Mall in the Egyptian capital opens its doors on Tuesday.

The 168,000-square-metre development with more than 300 outlets is located on the east side of the ring road in Greater Cairo and 15 minutes from the airport. Its catchment area includes Maadi, Heliopolis, Nasr City, Mokattam and New Cairo and targets more than eight million customers.

“As our retail offering will continue to grow, customers will benefit from an expanding stable of brands, products and services which have opted to open up shop at Cairo Festival City Mall,” said Mohammad Al Mikawi, managing director at Al Futtaim Group Real Estate Egypt, the developer and mall operator.

The current line-up of retailers includes the first Ikea store in Egypt, the biggest Marks & Spencer outlet in the country and a 10,755 square metre Carrefour hypermarket.

The mall is the core of the three-million-square-metre Cairo Festival City — something the developer has already done at Dubai Festival City — in New Cairo. “Cairo Festival City has allocated large residential areas, whereas villas and apartments are uniquely located within a safe, gated community and landscapes covering 80 per cent of the total area,” said Al Mikawi.

It has a mix of residential units, including villas, as well as office buildings in a range of unit sizes. There will also be an area specifically built for hotels. The American International School has also built a new campus at Cairo Festival City, while the Toyota and Honda showrooms are already an established presence.
