MUSCAT: Passengers on the Air India network will no longer have to travel on separate tickets for domestic and international flights.
Air India Limited (formerly NACIL) the merged entity of Air India coded flights (098) and IC coded flights (058) is now moving to a single code AI (098) by migrating to Passenger Service System (PSS) provided by SITA.
The system will come into effect from February 12.
Speaking to Times of Oman, Mohit Sain, country manager, Air India said, "Air India passengers would no longer have separate codes for domestic and international travel.
"There will not be two codes like before when passengers had to travel with an IC and AI code ticket. The move would speed up Air India's entry into Star Alliance, the world's largest integrated air transport network."
Passengers from Aizwal to Toronto via any other destination/s would have a single ticket and therefore, seamless travel.
Explaining that migration to the new system has many advantages, Sain said, "Services will be offered by a single service provider. This would ensure a number of additional facilities which would make the passenger's journey enjoyable, hassle-free and seamless travel.
Besides, passengers can take advantage of automated baggage reconciliation system and it will also enable them for kiosk check-in across the network and mobile check-ins.
The new system is also expected to aid Air-India's turnaround in joining the Star Alliance, which has 26 carriers as members, and will make AI part of a network that operates around 19,500 flights every day from as many as 1,071 airports in 171 countries..
All passengers holding 058 documents with IC coded flight numbers will be accepted for boarding on the corresponding AI coded flights. It is not mandatory to have the 058 document to be reissued in to 098 documents.
"If the passenger desires to make a change in the reservation, he or she will have to contact the nearest Air India Offices or Call Centres for making the necessary changes to reservation and e-tickets," the officials informed.
