There has been an outpouring of relief for the tsunami victims.

The aid has come from individuals, public and private companies, charity and humanitarian organisations and consulates, said P.D. Fernando, Consul General of Sri Lanka, yesterday.

The consulate is kept open 24 hours.

"We have so far despatched five 20-foot containers to Sri Lanka with relief goods, such as sugar, milk powder, tea, coffee, rice, pulses, dry fruits, blankets, clothes, towels, bedsheets and medicines.

"We have got a mountain of used clothes.

"I would appreciate it if people donated food, medicine especially saline and disposable syringes and roof materials."

"Sri Lankans in the UAE who are unable to track down their families in Sri Lanka can get in touch with Wijewickrama at 04-398-6279," he said.

Eppo/Enoc

The Dubai-headquartered Emirates National Oil Company (Enoc) LLC and its subsidiary Emirates Petroleum Products Company (Eppco), in a venture with ARAMEX International, have set up an Indian Ocean Disaster Appeal.

Thirteen of the Enoc Group's busiest service stations in Dubai and Sharjah have installed collection boxes, and are receiving donations of tents, plastic sheeting, blankets, non-perishable food and other general supplies.

The collection boxes are in place until tomorrow.

King's Revival International Charitable Trust

KRICT is donating 20,000 water purification tablets through the emergency relief campaign of Dubai Aid City and Sri Lankan Consulate office. Consignment of basic commodities, such as canned foods, macaroni, biscuits, etc in packed cartoons are air lifted to Sri Lanka on a daily basis until Monday.

Qatar Airways

A Qatar Airways charter aircraft flew to the Maldives to pick up stranded guests of the Four Seasons Hotel Maldives before returning to Doha. All passengers have been put up at The Ritz-Carlton Doha.

Al Ain

A collection point has been set up in Al Ain to gather donations.

Collected goods will be sent to those communities most in need through their respective embassies and charitable organisations. The collection point is the InterContinental Resort Al Ain.

Sean Morris, resort general manager, said the public can donate clothing, bedding and non-perishable dry goods.
