‘Afridi facing a tough challenge'

"Shahid Afridi is facing a tough task," said UAE's hard-hitting batsman Amjad Javed, who recently played alongside Afridi for Emirates airlines in a Twenty20 tournament in Dubai.

"Pakistan team is not a good one and Afridi as captain may not be able to do much with this team. The selectors should have included Imran Nazir and Shoaib Malek. Disciplinary actions against Malek should have been taken after the World Cup," added Javed.

"It is wrong to expect players like Fawad Alam to play quick knocks. You need batsmen who can fire quickly. There is need for good partnerships to accelerate the run rate," he said.

Javed feels that the Pakistan bowling is also weak. "After Umar Gul got injured they should have opted for Rana Naveed Ul Hasan instead of Mohammad Sami. Hasan has got very good yorkers and can contain the batsmen. Sami has been out of form. If current form did not matter then they could have picked Shoaib Akhtar. After all he has to bowl only four overs and he can bowl them quicker than anyone.

"England has played as a unit while Pakistan has not been able to adapt to the demands of Twenty20. Pakistan must pick up their game and win the remaining matches if they have to remain as champions," he said.
