BEIRUT (Zawya Dow Jones)--A group of Islamic countries in Africa plan to implement a railway project at a total cost of EUR6 billion that will link 13 African states from Port Sudan on the Red Sea coast to Dakar, Senegal's capital city on the Atlantic Ocean, pan-Arab Asharq Al Awsat daily reports Thursday citing an official.
Work at the project is expected to start six months from now and would be completed within five to six years, the paper reports citing Ambassador Hameed Opeloyeru, assistant secretary general for economic affairs at the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
The railway will link East, West and North Africa to Asia and Europe, he added.
