AFPC Production Unaffected By Pipeline Blast

A pipeline in east Syria caught fire on 12 July midnight but the fire was put out in just over three hours, the Chairman of the board of Al-Furat Petroleum Company (AFPC) Sa'id Hunaidi told the Syria Oil website on 13 July. The pipeline connects the AFPC Umar field to the Tayyem processing plant in the Dair al-Zour province. Mr Hunaidi revealed that only 100 barrels of crude were spilt during the fire and that AFPC oil production continued with no interruptions. He suggested that the fire could have started because of dry conditions which ignited the nearby vegetation, but noted that a full investigation would also be carried out in due course. According to a media report, residents in the area thought the damage to the pipeline was caused by a bomb, but this could not be verified. AFPC in the first quarter of 2011 produced 91,611 b/d of oil and 881 b/d of condensate (MEES, 16 May).
