Five-star Intercontinental Hotel Abu Dhabi has embarked on a Dh35-million development project involving expansion of its facilities and building of new units, including a family beach and an SPA at its sprawling beach.
National Corporation for Tourism and Hotels (NCTH), which runs the hotel, is implementing the project which also includes a new Lebanese restaurant within an ongoing drive to develop its hotels and resorts in the oil-rich emirate.
"These projects will turn Intercontinental into a major tourism destination," its general manager Dieter Franke said, quoted by Abu Dhabi-based Iris Media.
"The expansions will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2013...as for the new Health Club, the family beach and a children beach, they will be inaugurated in September...there is no doubt these new facilities will provide high-quality services for family holidays and allow other guests to enjoy their stay."
According to NCTH, the project includes a "high-standard" SPA, a family beach and the premises for the planned Lebanese restaurant overlooking the Marina.
The Lebanese restaurant will be named Byblos Sur Mer, NCTH and it would serve traditional Lebanese food to be prepared by famous chefs from Lebanon, NCTH said.
An NCTH official noted that originally Byblos was the commercial capital of the Phoenician coast in Lebanon and that it has lots of history.
"A strong name like Byblos Sur Mer projects in to the mind of the consumer the roots of Phoenicians and Lebanese food," he said.
