Abu Dhabi, Mar.8th, 2006 (WAM) -- Abu Dhabi Women's Collegeheld a workshop for over thirty participants from both governmentand private schools on Tuesday. The workshop was for headmistressesand school counselors and aimed at facilitating skill developmentin technology in learning, English, life-long learning and careerdevelopment.

The event was supported by the Abu Dhabi Education Zone and theactivities included workshops on how to assist students in makingeffective career and educational choices. A panel of Abu DhabiWomen's College graduates and students who have demonstratedstrength in utilizing technology to learn, English language skills,independent learning and career planning included Reem Al Quwaitaeiand Sara Al Zaabi and ADWC graduates Ameena Al Junabi and SameeraAl Hashimi.

Ameena Al Junaibi opened the forum discussion by speaking aboutthe importance of English in fulfilling her ambitions to workand continue her education at a higher level. Reem Al Quwaitaeifollowed by speaking about the "important role of independentlearning in life." She emphasized the need for schools to fosterindependent learning capabilities in children and to move awayfrom focusing solely on curriculum and exams. A common elementamongst all panel members was the appreciation of the benefitsof reading in English, including that which is inherent in onlinelearning.

Subha Al Shamsi, Head of NAPO (National Admission and PlacementOffice) joined the event for a question and answer session toprovide information about the admissions agreement and the processfor post secondary entrance. The goal of this session was tohelp school administrators and counselors better prepare theirstudents for higher education.
