Abu Dhabi, June 16th, 2011 (WAM) -- The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has recently kicked off an educative program for employees on the standards of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) in the context of a strategy aimed at refining the conceptions and implementation of HSE standards, and diffusing its culture among employees; considering its huge impact on improving the total quality standards and delivering top-class municipal services.
The first workshop of the Program includes training employees on First Aid skills at workplaces such as heat stress cases, impact of noise, food safety, protection of the respiratory system, classification of chemical material risks & radiation, procedures of emergency & evacuation in the Main Building of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, skills of dealing with various types of fire extinguishers, personal protective equipment at workplace, and training on the best practices relating to pesticides & insecticides. "These programs are rolled out in the context of the Municipalitys strategy and consciousness of the importance of applying all HSE standards at all workplaces and projects," said engineer Salah Awad Al Sarraj, Acting Executive Director of Town Planning Sector, Municipality of Abu Dhabi City. "The Program, which comprises all HSE elements & deliverables that branch out to include sustainability as a methodology of work, production and development, is considered the first of its kind among government entities across Abu Dhabi," he continued. For his part engineer Abdul Aziz Zurub, Director of HSE, Municipality of Abu Dhabi City stated that the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City was keen on furthering the awareness and diffusing the culture of HSE standards through intensive distribution of educative leaflets & booklets as well as the display of video footage relating to the improvement of employee skills of dealing with the HSE standards and requirements. "The HSE Division aims at educating and training the municipal staff on shouldering their responsibilities in this regard, and ensuring that the HSE services are compliant with the federal & local organizational legislations, legislative set up of the HSE Division, and codes of practices set for building & construction projects in Abu Dhabi. It also aims at developing the required resources & support that enable the effective management of HSE affairs through all processes and services of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City in order to ensure the sustained improvement of the HSE system," added Zurub. The Municipality is continuously attending to the upgrading procedures with a view to reducing & controlling the HSE risks, diffusing a positive culture, and promoting & developing HSE policies, structures & processes to ensure their effectiveness & compatibility with the objectives of the Municipality.
