Abu Dhabi, Dec 22nd, 2010 (WAM) -- Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) signed a loan agreement worth 37 million AED approximately (10 million dollars) with the Republic of Malawi for financing Jenda- Edingeni road project which aims to develop and improve the transport network in the region.

This essential project will positively contribute in linking the rural towns along the road also; this road would help in providing social and economic development for the citizens of Malawi especially the citizens who live in rural areas.

The loan agreement was signed at ADFDs office in Abu Dhabi by Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Acting Director General of ADFD, and Jafallie Mussa, Malawis Ambassador to Egypt.

Commenting on the signing of the agreement, Al Suwaidi said "the improvement of the road will be a length of 52 km and considers a part of a main road which length of 192 that will be linking the north of the country with "Lilongwe" the capital of Malawi. The road will start from Jenda on the border of Zambia and is heading north-west to Edingeni then heading north to Euthini and then ends in Rumphi.

Al Suwaidi emphasized that "the interest of ADFD to finance Jenda- Edingeni road comes within the framework of the importance of what this project represents for the Government of Malawi, where the project is considered one of the objectives of the Government to reduce poverty through the "Millennium Development Plan", launched by the United Nations.

He stressed on the active role for Abu Dhabi Government by saying " this agreement translates the policy and priorities that the wisdom leadership in Abu Dhabi followed to support developing countries by harnessing all the possible energies in order to achieve sustainable development in those countries."For his part, Jafallie Mussa hailed the initiative launched by the 'Abu Dhabi Fund for Development' toward his country through the provision of the financial support necessary to implement the project, which falls within the priorities of the five-year plan for the policies of public transport and the Financial Fund Resources for road Department in Malawi. He also stressed that the project will help to provide living and social needs for the local community.
