Dubai: An accountant who molested a jobseeker when she went to his company for a job interview, has been jailed for three months.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the Indian accountant, S.A., of molesting the 23-year-old Filipina jobseeker when she visited his company for an interview.
Presiding judge Ali Attiyah Sa’ad said the defendant will be deported following the completion of his jail term.
Prosecutors accused S.A. of touching the Filipina indecently and putting his arm around her and wanting to hug her. He also caressed her hair.
S.A. entered a not guilty plea.
The jobseeker testified that the incident happened while she was searching for a job in Dubai last month.
“I posted my resume online. On February 17 the defendant contacted me and asked to interview me at his office in Al Garhoud. I told him that I was alone and would wait for my brother-in-law to drop me the next day. I refused to go there immediately. He called me the next day and set an interview for me at 5.30pm. When I went to his office… he opened the door and invited me in. When I walked into the office, a person who was present left immediately.
“He told me that he would test my computer skills and asked me to work on a certain programme. When I told him that I was not familiar with that programme, he sat beside me. Then he put his hand over my hand… he touched my back, neck, shoulder, hair and waist. I yelled at him and told him that my brother-in-law was waiting for me downstairs. I rushed out of his office… he apologised to me over the phone,” claimed the jobseeker.
Records said the woman reported the incident to the police who arrested the defendant shortly after the incident.
Monday’s judgement remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
