AJMAN, Feb 10th, 2008: Acclaimed architect Rem Koolhaas is in the UAE emirate of Ajman on a current visit during which he is displaying his world famous works and designs in the UAE and other parts of the world.
The Dutch architect, architectural theorist, urbanist and Professor in Practice of Architecture and Urban Design at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University USA met with Chairman of Municipality & Planning Department in Ajman Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al-Nuaimi and other officials. Future cooperation on urban development and design was also discussed by Koolhaas and Ajam municipal officials. Later today, Koolhaas also toured some areas in the emirate of Ajman. He was presented with a memento shield by Sheikh Rashid in recognition of his achievements.Koolhaas presented Sheikh Rashid with copy of his book Al Manakh (2007), described as the first comprehensive guide to architecture and urban design in the Gulf. The title of the book is a variation of almanac meaning "the calendar" or "the climate in Arabic.
Among Koolhaas's architectural famous works are the Conference Center Ras Al-Khaima, UAE, the massive Central China Television Headquarters Building in Beijing, China, Seattle Central Library, Seattle, USA and Netherlands Embassy Berlin.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2008.
