Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Police has warned motorists to follow the guidelines in decorating their vehicles for the National Day celebrations on December 2 to avoid fines and the impounding of vehicles.

We want people to take part in the festivities and enjoy the National Day celebrations, but without driving recklessly and endangering the lives of others, Brigadier Hussain Al Harthi, Director of the Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrol Department said.

Guidelines

The police issued guidelines for decorating vehicles.

Motorists are prohibited from changing the colour of their vehicles and posting inappropriate and/or obscene words and phrases on the cars body.

The police also prohibited vehicles from carrying more than the permitted number of people. Passengers are also prohibited from sticking any part of their body out of the vehicle or attempting to perform stunts that could create chaos and block traffic.

Windscreens should be free from posters and vehicle licence plates should not be erased or covered with stickers or any decoration.

Attaching any noise-making accessory or device is also not allowed

Al Harthi warned mot-orists from stopping their vehicles in the middle of the road to spray paint on others.

Failing to abide by these rules will result in the impounding of the vehicle for a month in addition to a Dh2,000 fine and 12 black points, an official who asked to remain anonymous, told Gulf News.

Al Harthi called on motorists to comply with these guidelines for the safety and wellbeing of the society. Last year 25,682 violations were issued and 297 vehicles were impounded.
