ABU DHABI: The Under Secretary of the Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA), Engineer Ahmed Mohamed Al Shareef, and the Director General and Chief Executive of Ordnance Survey, Great Britain's national mapping agency, Dr. Vanessa Lawrence CB, have discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in the field of geospatial information and authoritative mapping.

The discussions which are within the framework of an agreement signed previously by the two sides.

DMA, the supervisory and regulatory body of Municipal work in the emirate, is currently developing an integrated infrastructure for spatial data in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

At the meeting, DMA reviewed the outcome of the land surveying bill, the scope of the land management system, and the improvement and development of processes for updating the base map as well as practices, standards and quality control in this area.

The discussions between the two sides today also took in ways that enhance the level of spatial electronic services provided by DMA, and the electronic systems for these services in addition to testing and registration of surveyors and surveying companies in the Emirate.

In the context of capacity building and organizing practices and adopt licensing professionals in the field of work surveying and mapping, the two sides also discussed the establishment of a surveying and mapping academy in collaboration with local educational institutions.

The two sides decided to organise workshops to strengthen cooperation and to exchange experience and expertise for the development and regulation of surveying business practices and equipment and techniques used. This exchange also aims to develop ways to set up and manage and update map basis and to enhance cooperation on geospatial information management.
