Twelve communal souks, based on build-operate-transfer model, will be developed in residential districts and suburbs of Abu Dhabi.
Abu Dhabi City Municipality (ADCM) has floated a build-operate-transfer (BOT) tender for Communal Souks Development- Phase 2 in residential districts and suburbs of Abu Dhabi, UAE.
"The souks will be based on a BOT model," an ADCM official told Zawya Projects, but declined to provide further details.
The tender is open only to investors with Abu Dhabi-based property development or investments permits, 100 percent owned by Emiratis, according to the tender invite.
The deadline to submit the tender documents is 27 January, 2015 along with a fee of $1,362 (5,000 dirhams) and a $272,479 (1 million dirhams) bank guarantee.
Phase 2, with a total area of 200,882 square meters, comprises Al Wathba, Bani Yas 1, Al Falah 1, Al Nahda Al Askariah, Al Samha, Shakhbout City 1, Al Rahba 1, Yas Island, Mohammed bin Zayed City 1 and 2 and Al Shamkha 1 and 2.
The communal souk projects have three key components - community service facilities, retail and service outlets, and government service centers.
The developers will have ownership to the land plots for 30 years based on leasing (Musataha contracts).
A local English daily Khaleej Times reported in September that the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council had issued new community facility planning standards according to which it is obligatory for the master planners, developers and government agencies to provide its residents with necessary community services and facilities.
Earlier in April, Zawya Projects had reported about the tendering of five mini markets across the emirate based on the BOT model by the ADCM.
