The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) will class the first four jack-up drilling rigs to be built in the United Arab Emirates.

Two of the rigs will be built for Thule Drilling at the QGM Group LLC rig construction yard while the two rigs for Mosvold Drilling will be built at Maritime Industrial Services. All of the rigs are based on Friede & Goldman's Super M2 design.

The rigs will be capable of operating in water depths of up to 300 feet and be able to drill wells up to 30,000 feet.

Meanwhile, China's Dalian Shipyard is building a jack-up for China Oilfield Services Limited (COSL) that will be classed by ABS.

The COSL 941 jack-up will be able to operate in up to 400 feet of water and drill wells up to 30,000 feet deep. Dalian will also be building the similar COSL 942 which will also be classed by ABS.
