Amman, Sep. 2 (Petra)
Eighty-nine members of parliament on Sunday signed a motion of no confidence against the government of Prime Minister Fayez Tarawneh two days after it raised fuel prices.
The MPs signed a memorandum demanding Lower House Speaker Abdul Karim al-Dughmi to add the no-confidence motion on the agenda of the House's extraordinary session.
Under the constitution, adding a proposal or an issue to the agenda of a parliament's extraordinary session needs the King's approval.
The legislators said they want confidence withheld from the government because it raised fuel prices and because of the recent appointments in top posts based on nepotism.
The MPs threatened not to attend any House meeting if the government does not back down its decision.
Meanwhile, Al-Dughmi invited the parliament to convene tomorrow to discuss the government's latest decisions with the attendance of the prime minister and cabinet members.
Earlier in the day, Al-Dughmi adjourned the House session because of the many remarks by the lawmakers whom criticized the government for hiking fuel prices.
