'Rahiya fire report will be ready within two weeks'
KUWAIT CITY: Fifty-two percent of the respondents on an online survey conducted recently by Al-Seyassah daily support calls for HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to practice his constitutional right to dissolve the National Assembly, 47 percent opposed the move, and one percent refused to comment on the issue.
According to those who favor the parliamentary dissolution, it is now time to take this step due to the disruption of national work, recession and suspension of the development process caused by the endless submission of grilling requests and deterioration of dialogue inside the Abdullah Al-Salem Hall. They also blamed the parliamentary majority for using its influence or power to pass laws deemed harmful to national unity and the entire society.
On the other hand, those who are against the dissolution stressed the need to give the legislature enough time to prove its ability to realize the dreams of the people, address perennial problems and implement vital development projects.
Meanwhile, the Environment Affairs and Nuclear Energy Committee investigating Rahiya tires fire incident held its second meeting Saturday, reports Al-Wasat daily.
In a statement after the meeting, head of the committee Dr Hamad Al-Matar said the initial investigations report will be completed within two weeks and many authorities are likely to be held accountable.
He added that the committee will be guided by report of the fact finding committee of the Municipal Council. He noted the parliamentary committee report is more open in its activities and all concerned authorities have been investigated in that concern.
He stressed that the committee will hold its Saturday meetings on a regular basis to complete other reports, including Ahmadi gas and Mishref wastewater crises.
Meanwhile, member of the committee MP Marzouq Al-Ghanim hopes the investigation of Rehiya fire incident will bring about many recommendations, including radical solution to the wastewater issue.
In another report, National Assembly Speaker Ahmad Al-Saadoun sent on Sunday cables of congratulations to his counterparts in Lesotho Sephiri Motanyane and Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan on the occasion of their new posts as speakers of parliaments in their countries.
Al-Saadoun, in the cables, hoped their appointment would further enhance bilateral relations between the State of Kuwait and their countries.
Al-Saadoun also sent a cable of congratulations to Speaker of Council of the Republic in the Republic of Portugal Assuncao Esteves on the occasion of his country's National Day.
