Hackers have accessed two million user names and passwords of facebook, gmail, Twitter, Yahoo and others from across the world which could include the UAE.
This time, hackers have managed to attack personal computers by installing keylogging software through a proxy server, thereby making it difficult to identify which computers are affected.
According to a CNN report quoting security firm Trustwave, facebook appears to be the most popular service among 93,000 websites that the hackers had gained access to.
On November 24 alone, 318,000 facebook accounts were hacked into followed by 70,000 Google, 60,000 Yahoo and 22,000 Twitter accounts.
These companies have already been notified and affected customers have been informed of the incident and told to immediately change their passwords.
Security experts have often urged users to change their passwords at least once in three months and to update the anti virus programme to remove any affected malware.
The vulnerability of social networking sites have forced many to look for alternate services and service providers to device innovative alternatives.
Emirates 24/7 had recently reported about a new social networking service that targets disgruntled facebook users, promising them greater security and privacy.

Syme says it has implemented an end-to-end encryption system where any message shared by a user will only be visible to the intended audience and nobody else, not even to Syme.
