Damascus - Minister of Local Administration Tamer Fuad al-Hija on Saturday stressed the orientations of the 11th five-year plan are a continuation to the development process which aims at improving the living conditions of citizens through establishing the bases for a competitive economy as the foundation of the development process.
During a meeting with the governors at the Ministry, al-Hija added the Ministry focuses in the 11th five-year plan on the balance of services through disturbing service projects among the provinces, cities and countrysides.
He added that the plan also focuses on developing random housing areas, creating better environment for industrial investments, ensuring sites equipped with infrastructure services, continuing the implementation of integrated management of solid wastes and updating the institutional, legislative and financial framework for the local administration.
The Minister pointed out that the value of the Ministry's investments in the current plan is SYP 265.8 billion (USD 5.67 billion), compared to SYP 162.4 billion (USD 3.46 billion) in the 10th five-year plan.
Al-Hija called on the governors to take advantage of all the potentials available as to carry out the development and investment projects, noting that the rate of the overall implementation of projects in Syria in the last year was 99%, with SYP 32.4 billion (USD 0.69 billion) invested.
He indicated that the amendment of the Local Administration Law, which is going on, will set the development strategies for the municipals, focus on using all the potentials, and concentrate on the developmental role of the municipalities along with the service role.
