DOHA: Qatar's trade surplus (in goods) in July 2016 stood at QR6.7bn, down by QR1.54bn, or 18.8 percent, compared to QR8.24bn registered during the previous month, data released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics show.

However, when compared on year-on-year basis, the trade surplus (which represents the difference between exports and imports) in July has declined by QR7.4bn, or 52.5 percent, compared to QR14.08bn in July 2015.

In July 2016, the total exports of goods (including exports of goods of domestic origin and re-exports) amounted to around QR16.3bn, showing a decrease of 30 percent compared to July 2015. And decreased by 6.5 percent compared to June 2016. On other hand, the imports of goods in July 2016 amounted to around QR9.6bn, showing an increase of 4.4 percent over July 2015. However, on a month-on-month basis the imports increased by 4.5 percent.

The year-on-year decrease in total exports was mainly due to lower exports of petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons (LNG, condensates, propane, butane, among other) reaching QR10.4bn approximately in July 2016, a decrease of 33.3 percent, petroleum oils and oils from bituminous minerals (crude) reaching QR2.5bn nearly, decreased by 18.6 percent, as well as the petroleum oils and oils from bituminous minerals (not crude) reaching QR800m, decreased by 28.9 percent.

In July 2016, Japan was at the top of the countries of destination of Qatar's exports with close to QR3.3bn, a share of 20 percent of total exports, followed by India with almost QR2.4bn and a share of 14.8 percent, South Korea with about QR2.4bn, a share of 14.8 percent.

During July 2016, Parts of aircraft and helicopters, etc., was at the top of the imported group of commodities, with QR500m, showing a increase of 10.3 percent compared to July 2015. In second place was Motor cars and other passenger vehicles, with QR500m, showing an decrease by 37.1 percent, and in third place was Electrical Apparatus for Line Telephony/Telegraphy, Telephone Sets and other with QR200m, increased of 11 percent.

In July 2016, United State of America was the leading country of origin of Qatar's imports with about QR2bn, a share of 21.4 percent of the imports, followed by China with QR900m almost, a share of 9.7 percent, and United Arab Emirates with QR700m, a share of 7.5 percent.
