KUWAIT: Thawabt Consultancy and Training held a press conference at the Palms Beach Hotel yesterday to publicize its new 'green computing' awareness and training initiative, 'Thawabt Green Computing,' in cooperation with the Green Computing Initiative (GCI).

With computers being ubiquitous in our work, as well as our personal lives, explained Mohammed Al-Obaidli, Thawabt's Deputy General Manager, "IT managers, and executive managers are always searching for the best strategy for leading their establishments to become more active and environmentally friendly through the systematic use of energy," said Mohammed Al-Obaidli, Thawabt's deputy general manager during the press conference.

Launching the company's special green computing application, Enerlytics,' Al-Obaidli explained its benefits: "This application will save money and carbon dioxide by controlling computers, which will save 50 percent of the energy used," he continued. "A normal computer consumes around 500 kilowatts per hour of electricity every year. 70 percent of that is lost when not using the computer, especially after work hours. This [Enerlytics] will increase profits and reduce the negative effect on planet Earth.

Thawabt Consultancy and Training is offering a range of different courses in its 'Green Computing Initiative Program,' including the chance to qualify as a Certified Green Computing Professional, which offers students the opportunity to acquire an array of new abilities and real-world skills, and expertise in Green Computing technologies.

This qualification will confirm that its holder has the wide-ranging set of skills essential to implement, manage and optimize green computing technologies, such as data center energy optimization, virtualization, cloud computing, grid computing and other power optimization techniques.

Another qualification on offer is the Certified Green Computing Architect, which will verify that its holders have the necessary skill set to strategize, design and optimize green computing technologies, such as data center energy optimization, virtualization, cloud computing, grid computing and other power optimization techniques. This course focuses on the Strategy, Design and Continual Improvements parts of the Green Computing Lifecycle.
