Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), the emirate's prominent banking hub, announces a new governor

Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), the emirate's prominent banking hub, has a new governor, it has been announced.

Abdullah Mohammed Saleh has been named as the new head of the DIFC in a decree issued by UAE vice president and ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The change is effective immediately.

Saleh replaces Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer, who has held the post since late 2009. Al-Tayer also stepped down as chairman of government-controlled Emirates NBD bank last month.

Saleh is chairman of the Dubai Financial Services Authority, which regulates the DIFC. It's unclear if he will continue in that post.
