Work is progressing according to schedule and the consortium of the French Alstom and Sistra, Belgian Besix and American Parsons firms will start utilities diversions in preparation for the construction work," Al Tayer said.
"Phase one envisages construction of a 9.5km-long track from Dubai Marina to Mall of the Emirates Station. The network includes 19 stations. Each tramcar will have a capacity of about 300 passengers. The fleet will have eight trams in Phase one and 17 more in Phase two, bringing total capacity to about 5,000 passengers per hour in each direction.
"The tracks will be at grade level along Al Sufouh Road and elevated across certain areas of Dubai Marina," Al Tayer said.
