Muscat: Volkswagen Middle East has announced record sales in the first quarter of 2012, confirming its position as the fastest-growing volume manufacturer in the region.

With 2,894 units delivered between January and March 2012, the company has registered a 72 per cent year-on-year growth in automobile sales for Q1, showing strong progress right across the Middle East.

The figure puts the company in the excellent position of having achieved a 53 per cent total growth between March 2011 and March 2012.

"These record-breaking results are proof that Volkswagen's values of engineering excellence, innovation and affordability are a perfect match for the region,- said Marcus Butros, Sales Director, Volkswagen Middle East. "I'm proud to say that Volkswagen, with the help of its regional partners, is now the fastest-growing volume manufacturer in the Middle East, showing strong positive growth in all key areas.-

"Naturally, instability in various markets - Syria for example - has meant that there is progress to be made in some regions, but overall I'm pleased to say that Volkswagen continues to make strong progress in the Middle East.-

He added: "With an ever-evolving model lineup more and more Middle Eastern buyers are finding that 'the people's car' fits their needs perfectly, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication our team puts in to ensure Volkswagen brings tailor-made cars to the region.-

The company's top performers for the first quarter were the all-new Jetta and Tiguan, increasing sales year-on-year by 650 per cent and 207 per cent respectively.
Following closely behind is the CC, reporting a 202 per cent increase on the same period in 2011.

2012 is set to be a busy year for Volkswagen Middle East; with the all-new Jetta launched last year and new Passat and the Polo Sedan makes its debut in the region later this year.

The boost in Middle Eastern sales has also helped Volkswagen worldwide surpass -" for the first time ever -" more than two million cars delivered in the first quarter of a year. Between January and April 2012 the firm delivered 2.16 million cars; a year-on-year increase of 9.6 per cent, and also reported a record March delivery figure of 862,700 for the car maker; an increase of 12.5 per cent year on year.
