• Tariq Hilal Lootah: New measure a positive step aimed at facilitating registration process

Abu Dhabi - The National Election Committee (NEC) has announced a new step towards facilitating the registration of candidates for the Federal National Council Elections 2015 by allowing Electoral College members to authorise their representatives to submit the application on their behalf to the Emirate Committee of their respective emirate.

In order to take advantage of the new provision, applicants need to authorise a representative through a power of attorney, provided that the power of attorney is authenticated by a notary, the NEC stated.

Commenting on the new measure, HE Tariq Hilal Lootah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs, and Chairman of the Election Management Committee, said the new provision is a positive step towards easing the registration of candidates for the elections. The facility is one of the series of actions taken by the NEC to encourage members of the electoral bodies, whether they are voters or candidates, to participate effectively in the Federal National Council Elections in 2015, HE Lootah said.

According to the timetable announced earlier by the Committee, those who meet the conditions in the executive instructions can register as candidates for the elections from August 16 to 20. The registration centres will be announced by the Committee later.
