H.E. Dr Sultan Al Jaber, minister of state, meets with US government and Policy Makers

Abu Dhabi, February 28, 2015 -  UAE Minister of State, H.E Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber completed a visit to Washington DC where he discussed ways to promote bilateral political and economic cooperation across areas of mutual interest, including regional stability, trade and energy.

The bilateral talks were attended by His Excellency Yousef Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the US, and aimed at reinforcing the groundwork for the existing strategic partnership between the two countries.

"The UAE and US share a deep-rooted relationship based on a shared vision, mutual respect, and common economic and political interests," said H.E. Dr. Al Jaber.  "The UAE looks forward to cultivating this relationship further across areas of mutual interests including energy, trade, stability and our region's prosperity."

H.E Dr. Al Jaber met with senior government officials within the United States Congress, Department of Energy, State Department as well as with various US policy makers.

H.E. Dr. Al Jaber conducted two round table discussion organized by the Atlantic Council on Foreign Relations-- a think tank in the field of international affairs specifically focused on international security and global economic prosperity--and by Foreign Policy magazine.

During the roundtable discussions attended by US policy makers and influential opinion leaders,  H.E Dr. Al Jaber elaborated on the UAE's role within the Middle East as a forward looking, moderate and influential regional voice dedicated to ensuring stability and security. H.E Dr. Al Jaber also elaborated on the UAE's support for Egypt and the importance of the upcoming Egypt Economic Development Conference (EEDC) in March, a milestone in the Egyptian government's medium term economic development plan.

He stated that the EEDC will provide a fitting platform where the world's investment and finance community will get an insightful overview on steps Egypt is taking to introduce effective economic reforms.

During his visit to Washington DC, H.E Dr Al Jaber also met with President of the World Bank, Dr. Jim Yong Kim, and Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde to build on the existing strong relations with both multilateral institutions and to expand joint efforts in support of Egypt's economic stability and growth.

H.E Dr. Al Jaber emphasized the important role of the World Bank and IMF in achieving growth, development and stability across the world and particularly in developing countries. He also stressed the importance of the two institutions' participation at the Egypt Economic Development Conference, reinforcing the need for additional capacity building, technical support  and the adoption of a dynamic approach to cater for Egypt's immediate needs given the country's current economic circumstances.

On February 11, the IMF completed its Article IV Consultation Staff Report on Egypt for the first time since 2011. The IMF Directors welcomed the improved economic outlook and supported the government's plans to restore macroeconomic stability and spur inclusive growth and employment.
