Abu Dhabi: Thuraya, a leading international mobile satellite operator, yesterday announced the election of a new board of directors at its annual general meeting.

The new directors will serve three-year terms.

They are Mohammad Hassan Omran, chairman of etisalat; Khalid Ahmad Bel Kheyour, president and chief executive officer of Arabsat; Shaikh Abdul Rahman Bin Munarak Saif Al Thani of Qtel; Nasser Bin Obood of etisalat UAE; Yousuf Al Syed, head of etisalats Group Transformation Office; Obaid Al Sharid, senior vice-president of Financial Operations at etisalat; Abdul Rahman Al Mubarak from the Abu Dhabi Economic Council; Ahmad Mohammad Abdul Jalil Al Fahim from the Abu Dhabi Economic Council and Khalid Bin Kalban, managing director of Dubai Investments PJSC.

Two independent directors will, for the first time, join Thurayas board.

They are Michael Butler, former president and chief operating officer of Inmarsat, and Charles W. Moore, president of Lockheed Martin Global, Middle East and Africa. Their election to the board serves to strengthen Thurayas international reach and focus during this time of growth.
