MUSCAT -- In an effort to help individuals with special needs integrate into the community mainstream, The Wave, Muscat recently extended its support towards the Oman Association for Disabled by enabling them to buy adaptive equipment to customise 10 cars for disabled drivers.
The commitment between The Wave, Muscat and the association was reinforced at The Wave's sales office where its CEO Nick Smith, presented a cheque to Yahya al Amri, Chairman, Oman Disabled Association. "The integration of handicapped people into society is an essential part of life today and we at The Wave are delighted to be able to help, even in this small way, to improve the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves," said Nick Smith commenting on the Association's endeavours for the disabled.
Receiving the cheque, Al Amri said, "We are very thankful for the support The Wave, Muscat has shown towards us. Enabling mobility is a very critical component of a disabled man's life. By giving him the ability to be independent we empower him not just physically but mentally as well. 27 of our members have managed to get driving licences, we shall now use this donation by The Wave, Muscat to procure the equipment required for making cars disabled friendly and shall also train the people to use this equipment,".
The Omani Association for Disabled aims to raise public awareness of the handicapped in the Sultanate. They continuously strive to ensure better involvement of handicaps in the social, cultural and educational initiatives of the society. The Wave, Muscat, is being developed through a joint venture comprising Oman's Waterfront Investments (representing the Government of the Sultanate of Oman), National Investment Funds Company (representing the Omani Pension Funds), and the UAE-based Majid Al Futtaim Group.
