Abu Dhabi, May 14th, 2012 (WAM)--The Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) is participating in the 4th edition of Abu Dhabi Telecoms CEO Summit, held under the patronage of Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, UAE Minister of Economy, in Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
The event that kicked off today 14th May 2012 gathered over 500 high profile attendees from telecom operators, vendors, service provider community, and representatives of UAE governmental entities including H.E. Majed Al Mesmar, TRA Deputy Director General, and H.E. Dr. Eisa Bastaki, CEO, ICT Fund. The event is held in sponsorship of governmental entities in the UAE and key players of the industry including: Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority as Destination Partner, Etisalat as Strategic Telecom Partner, CISCO as Platinum Sponsor, Tech Mahindra as Silver Sponsor and UAE ICT Fund A TRA Initiative- as Gold Sponsor. Commenting on the event, Majed Al Mesmar, TRA Deputy Director General, said: "the ever developing nature of the telecom sector implies that we work together to be in line with the latest developments, and to shape the future of the sector. Looking at the level of participation, we are confident that this summit will yield concrete results that will help us all improve and set the outlines for an advanced digital future for our region and the world as well."The summit that gathers all major decision makers and players in the sector, will discuss a wide range of topics focusing on the telecom sector, in several sessions that will be held under the themes: Being Connected: The Journey from Vital Need to Basic Human Right. The Excitement of the Inflection Point Between the Broadband Avalanche and the Traditional Telecoms; Building the Connected Economy; and Strategies for Success: Telecom Strategies Enabling the Zetabyte Era. The summit will also highlight the challenges faced by the telecom sector today, and the participants will try to suggest solutions to these challenges and attempt to set visionary solutions for the future of the sector. The opening ceremony of the event held today 14th May 2012, was inaugurated by an opening speech of Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, UAE Minister of Economy, in which he welcomed the participants in the event, and highlighted the steps taken by the UAE in implementing the directives of the UAE visionary leadership, aiming to develop the telecommunications sector. He noted the UAEs aspiration to maintain the regional leading position it enjoys in relation with the ICT sector and its endeavor to achieve a leading status globally as well. During the activities of the first day, a session was held on the future of the telecommunication sector, in which Majed Al Mesmar, TRA Deputy Director General delivered the keynote speech titled: "Connectivity Without Borders" in which he spoke of the growing importance of the telecommunication sector, and how it links regions, countries and the entire world, bypassing all obstacles, and linguistic and cultural barriers. He also mentioned the importance of continuing efforts to keep pace with the latest developments in this field through collaborative work and cooperation. Al Mesmar stressed that the concrete links between telecommunication sector on one hand, and business and economy sectors on the other, are the main reason for economic progress in todays world. Dr. Bastaki, who will be speaking during the CEO Panel discussion held under the theme "The Biggest Challenges Facing Operators in the MENA Region," said in his comment on the event: "we in the UAE are always keen to be part of such events, and our participation comes in line with the overall strategy aiming at developing and enhancing the ICT sector in the country. We look forward to participate in the sessions of the event and exchange our ideas and expertise in this sector with the industry leaders.
