Sharjah, 12th of January 2017

HE Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), discussed with the UAE Ambassador to Turkmenistan HE Hassan Abdullah Al Adhab ways to develop the economic relationship between Turkmenistan and the UAE, particularly Sharjah, during a meeting at SCCI’s HQ.

The meeting was attended by HE Khalid bin Butti Al Hajri, Director General of SCCI, Mohammed Ahmed Amin, Assistant Director-General for Communication and Business and Ibrahim Rashid Al Jarwan, Director of Economic Relations at the Chamber.

HE Abdullah Al Owais emphasized SCCI’s willingness to strengthen the economic and investment cooperation with Turkmenistan, based on the partnership and friendly relationship between the two nations.

Al Owais said: “The leaderships of both countries are keen to promote investment and joint ventures in trade, oil and gas and manufacturing sectors. This will support the partnership and encourage investment between the two countries. SCCI will take many positive steps in this regard this year”.

The two sides agreed to invite businessmen to join the UAE-Turkmenistan Joint Commission, so as to include a representative of private sector in this group. A proposal to organize a visit of a high-level business delegation from Turkmenistan to Sharjah in the fourth quarter of the year was studied.

The attendees touched upon the investment climate in Turkmenistan. They discussed the possibility of chamber’s participation, alongside a selected group of Sharjah based companies, in an international trade show set to take place in Turkmenistan next April.

The UAE is Turkmenistan’s 5th largest trade partner, with over $1 billion trade exchange between the two countries last year. However, the volume of trade exchange between the two nations is expected to grow by 20%, following the exchange of business delegations with the aim to enhance agreements of economic, trading and investment cooperation, particularly in energy and manufacturing industries.
