Riyadh -- The King Salman Center for Youth has joined hands with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to develop three globally certified indicators to prepare a study on Saudi youth.
"The National Indicators for Youth project constitutes a part of the Center's strategy to keep up with Saudi Vision 2030 which mainly depends on youth," said Hani Al-Mogbil, executive director of the King Salman Center for Youth.
Youth represents half of the Saudi population, and so the aim is to benefit from this demographic advantage in line with Vision 2030.
The project is part of the Center's strategy that focuses on establishing and entrenching the spirit of initiative and entrepreneurship among young people, he said.
The agreement with UNDP was the result of the Center's participation in the process of shifting the Kingdom toward a knowledge-based economy, Al-Mogbil said.
The indicators will be an important tool in shifting to a knowledge-based economy by contributing in decision-making and assuming a leading role in guiding youth policies and managing youth opinions and approaches in the Kingdom.
The National Indicators for Youth project was planned after many workshops, initiatives and accumulated experience gained by the Center through direct contact with the youth.
It will provide a wealth of information related to Saudi youth.
The experiences of some states have proven the project's efficacy and efficiency in providing solid knowledge about the youth.
Ashok Nigam, UN Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative of UNDP, said UNDP always encourages initiatives that provide opportunities and empowers the youth, which is the role assumed by the Center in the Kingdom.
