Abu Dhabi - The Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) e-Government Authority has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Finance (MoF) to implementthe e-Dirham system across RAK government entities.
The transition to the e-Dirham system will allow RAK government departments tocollect service fees and facilitate the payment of government fees. The National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD)is responsible for providing the departments with the hardware, software and equipment required to use the system.
The agreement was signed by HE Younis Haji Al Khoori, Undersecretary of MoF; Eng. Ahmed bin Saeed Al Sayah, Acting Director General of Ras Al Khaimah e-Government Authority and Saif Al Shehhi, Senior Managing Director - Abu Dhabi Government & VVIP Clients at NBAD; as well as HE Saeed Rashid Al Yateem, Assistant Undersecretary of Resources and Budget Sector at MoF and Mona Al Mulla, Head of the Collections Department at MoF.
HE Younis Haji Al Khoori, Undersecretary of MoF said: "The signing of this agreement reflects local government entities' commitment to implement the e-Dirham system. The e-Dirham system is characterised by its ability to reduce the time and effort required to deliver services to customers, enhancingoperational accuracy and efficiency. The e-Dirham system supports the smart shift in government services."
HE Al Khooriadded: "MoF, with the support of the e-Dirham system team, continues to implement best international e-payment and collection practices to enhance the security and efficiency of government services. The Ministry is also striving to ensure that its partnersare always up-to-date with the latest technologies."
Eng. Ahmed bin Saeed Al Sayah, Acting Director General of Ras Al Khaimah e-Government Authority said: "This agreement falls in line with the UAE's strategy and RAK's visionto complete the transition toe-government andto provide a growing range of smart services tocustomers, individuals and companies.Implementing the e-payment methods offered by the e-Dirham system will strengthenthe accuracy, efficiency and quality of government services, as well as enhance customer satisfaction."
Saif Al Shehhi, Senior Managing Director - Abu Dhabi Government & VVIP Clients at NBADsaid: "NBAD is keen to support the UAE's vision to make the transition to a smart government through the implementation of the e-Dirham system. The system facilitates the secure and efficient delivery of government services, adding significant value to ministry and government entity operations."
Al Shehhi added:"We are delighted to expand the range of services provided by the e-Dirham system and include RAK e-Government Authority amongst our partners. This reflects our wise leadership's vision to shift to smart government services and keep pace with the evolving needs of our community."
In July, MoF announced the launch of the fee collection phase for authentication services pertaining to certificates of origin and invoices for imported goods, which are provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Individuals and companies can now pay for authentication services for certificates of origin and invoices, in addition to all related fees, electronically, through e-Dirham cards.
Last May, MoF signed an MoU with the Emirates Post Group for customers to easily charge and recharge their e-Dirham cards. e-Dirham services are offered across all 126 NBAD branches, with selected branches in Umm Al Quwain, 42 service facilitation centres, 62 Aafaq Islamic Finance branches, 765 printing houses and 24 other distribution channels.
