Moroccan journalist and Al Massae editor Rachid Nini on Wednesday (April 2nd) called for press law reforms to ensure "freedom of expression", AFP reported.
"I want to be the last journalist in Morocco to have been in prison. I ask that deprivation of liberty for a journalist no longer be possible in the future press code," Nini said at a celebration organised by his supporters.
"There will be no progress without respect for press freedom," he said.
He also called for the establishment of an independent body to resolve press-related disputes.
Nini was sentenced to one year in prison last June, following his conviction for disinformation and other charges related to published allegations about Moroccan security authorities. He was released Saturday from Casablanca's Oukacha prison.
