Roads and Transport Authority - Manal Khaled:

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently held a seminar about Innovation in the Government Sector in collaboration with the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) attended by several local government bodies such as Dubai Courts, Dubai Police, Finance Department, Dubai Statistics Center and a host of IMA representatives. The event aimed at spotlighting how innovation can improve the business practice, and offering a full review of the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) program.

"We, in RTA, are keen on holding several seminars to beef up our credentials and improve the business practice to the highest standards of excellence & innovation," said Ahmed Al Kaabi, Executive Director of Finance, RTA. "This seminar is the first planned for this year with the aim of uplifting staff skills & competencies as well as leveraging practical communication between employees of RTA and other government entities. The event as such conforms to the vision of the government for sharing expertise and stepping up cooperation between relevant government bodies. The RTA has a role to play in motivating employees in general and employees of the Department of Finance in particular, by enrolling them to training courses for developing their professional careers. We were therefore keen on attaching some staffs of the Finance Department to the IMA program and some of them have been certified as CMAs. This year, we have a plan to enroll more employees to obtain this certification," he added.

Jeffrey Thomson, President and CEO of IMA, made a visual presentation to attendees about Innovation & Leadership where he highlighted the role of the IMA in offering new opportunities for management accounting and financial management specialists by focusing on methods of sound financial planning, accurate analysis tools, control of crises management, and support of decision-making. He hailed the efforts of Dubai Government in delivering innovative & advanced services in the financial sector and supporting innovation. He also praised RTA's outstanding efforts in motivating employees to obtain the CMA certification.

RTA also made a visual presentation about Innovation Strategy by focusing on innovation policy, key aspects about the generation, improvement and management of ideas, in addition to the innovation operation model, ideas management system and diverse innovation models.

At the conclusion of the seminar, Al Kaabi paid tribute to the cooperation of participating government entities, noting that innovation at the workplace can only be achieved through motivating & sensitizing employees about the importance of making additional efforts to improve the business process to top-class standards, such that we can make a role model not only in the UAE, but also far afield.
