HE Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), was delighted to see the RTA emerge as a winner of eight awards in the 18th Dubai Government Excellence Program 2015 including six awards at the corporate level.

For the second year running, the RTA has scooped the Government Entity Sponsoring Creativity award, and the RTA has made a breakthrough success by winning for the first time the Best Government Entity in Customers Satisfaction award (main entities). It has also won the Creative Idea award for the (Smart Journeys initiative); which has slashed the waiting time of taxicabs in Dubai Airports through introducing a two-shift operation system for the same vehicle ensuring the vehicle to be in service day and night; which resulted in the provision of the taxi service in abundance at Dubai Airports. This has in turn resulted in reducing the waiting time for taxicabs from 30 minutes to 3 minutes, and upped the customers satisfaction rating as well.

The RTA has also bagged the Distinguished Administrative Initiative award for Labeh (Here to Help) initiative which resulted in facilitating the procedures of driving licenses and vehicles registration through delivering the service via insurance companies, and eyesight testing centers (trusted agents). Accordingly, the number of entities coordinating with the RTA has leapfrogged from 17 centers in Dubai to as much as 511 centers across the UAE. The RTA has also clinched the Distinguished Work Team award in recognition of the efforts of Team 11; which oversaw the Dubai Tram project; the first tramway outside Europe powered by ground electric cables extending along the entire track without requiring catenary cables to provide power supply. It is also recognized as the first tramway in the world that uses platform screen doors in passenger terminals whose opening and closing mechanism is synchronized with the opening and closing system of the tram's doors. The RTA has also grabbed the Distinguished Inter-Governmental Project award with the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities (Dubai Hands). At the individual level, the RTA won the Creative Employee award (Khalifa Humaid bin Dhaiban) and the Unsung Hero award (Abdul Haleem Mano).

Al Tayer offered deep thanks and gratitude to HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council; and HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council, for patronizing and supporting the excellence & pioneering drive that has upped the performance of the government sector. "Such efforts are illustrated in rolling out the Dubai Government Excellence Program in 1997 as a world-class integrated platform for recognizing government excellence, and a driving force for leveraging government performance. It has thus brought about a quantum shift in the quality performance of government entities based on proven & trusted world-class standards," he said.

"Thanks to the guidance of our prudent leadership, and the diligent efforts of our employees acting in team spirit, the RTA has managed to enhance the performance level, keep abreast of the latest developments in various fields, and introduce new administrative concepts. It has also raised the bar on the performance & care for its human resources, and advocated the creative & innovative spirit through motivating employees & offering them a convenient working environment to perform in a coordinated manner. Accordingly, it has managed to accomplish plenty of achievements and projects that have had immense positive impacts across the Emirate, and contributed to all categories of the Dubai Government Excellence Program," added Al Tayer.

RTA Chairman of the Board and Executive Director commended the efforts of winners and honourees, and paid tribute to their determination and persistence to excel in their jobs; which has been culminated in abundance by making their way to top accolades. Winning these awards constitutes a strong impetus for the RTA to continue the administrative and technical advancement, and go further down the track of excellence, he concluded.
