QNCC receives Tarsheed's highest honour for raising conservation standards

Doha - Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), operated by AMLAK Holding, recently won three prestigious awards from three separate awards associations for its excellence as one of the leading convention and exhibition centres globally as well as  its commitment to sustainability.

QNCC was awarded by Tarsheed, the National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency, which was initiated in 2012 by the Conservation and Energy Efficiency department of KAHRAMAA under the patronage of the Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani to help achieve Qatar National Vision 2030. The significant achievements of the ongoing programme have added values to the efforts of all Tarsheed's partners who are contributing in achieving the set out targets of reducing Electricity and Water consumptions by 20% and 35%, respectively until 2017. Tarsheed awarded QNCC the Best Conserving Building Award, for its sustainability efforts; AMLAK received this prestigious award at the awards ceremony.

Additionally, this year QNCC was awardedThe Best Conference and Convention Centre at the World Tourism Forum's 'Oscars of Tourism' Awards, a platform that brings the attendees and the leaders of world tourism together.  QNCC also won the title ofThe Middle East's Leading Exhibition and Convention Centre for the thirdyear in a row by the World Travel Awards, voted for by travel and tourism professionals worldwide.

"Our building is approximately 32% more efficient when compared with other buildings of a similar size and design. It is through simple actions, such as utilising maximum daylight inside and installing an efficient lighting system throughout the premises,which enables us to reduce our carbon footprint and look forward to a more sustainable tomorrow."

A number of the Centre's sustainability efforts stood out to Tarsheed inspectors, these include;
• the solar power PV plant on QNCC roof which generates electricity and meets 12.5% of QNCC Energy needs;

• the air conditioning system which is comprised of chilled water cooling and a VAV system with exhaust air heat recovery making it superior in energy efficiency;

• QNCC's efficient drip irrigation system and a waste water recycling plant which produces 150 m3 per day. In addition, QNCC has a Gold Certification by US GBC LEED, confirming the building's continued sustainability efforts.

• Energy efficient lighting system like CFL and LED installed throughout the premises, controlled either by PIR controller or by Lighting Management system.

• Low flow lavatory faucets saves considerable amount of Water.

• The Effective Building Management system and roof insulation system plus glazed glass for facades.

• QNCC building is Gold Certified by US GBC LEED
