Dubai - According to a recent survey carried out by Canon Middle East among 1,000 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) throughout the GCC, only one in five organisations in the region have the option to print remotely.

The survey also reveals that SMEs hesitate to invest in solutions with remote printing technology and such facilities are only more common among businesses that have a higher turnover.

The trends not only highlight that the awareness of productivity-enhancing printing facilities from printers is fairly low, it is also a rather glaring reminder of the absence of a proper printing management and infrastructure among organisations.

Remote printing is the technology that enables printers to be accessed over a network through cloud computing. It enables users to print from anywhere, anytime, through any device, any document. This means userscan send and print documents from laptops, desktops, tablets, and smartphones to a printer down hall, in a hotel lobby down the block or an office supply store across the street.

"For businesses in the region that are always burdened with work demands and time-strapped, Cloud Printing solutions can be a revolutionary change helping them expedite their process and meet demands in timely manner. There is a clear opportunity for companies in the region to make simple, cost-effective IT changes that will have a dramatic impact on their business while also reduce costs and improving workforce efficiency," said Hendrik Verbrugghe, Marketing Director, Canon Middle East.

While inadequate or low knowledge about the existence of such solutions is one prime reason why this technology is not harvested upon, the most commonly cited concerns around the adoption of printing solutions with mobile/cloud functionalities are the effects the new technology will have on data/network security, costs, and integration with existing infrastructure and applications. A critical concern is security around mobile printing, with organizations wanting the ability to securely authenticate and track mobile users who access printing devices from smartphones or tablets.

To address the gap, Canon offers a number of cloud printing solutions that help deliver simple and secure ways to print and scan from mobile devices, while allowing more secure printing from almost anywhere using a cloud service:
